Howard Leroy “PeeWee” Hale, Jr., age 81, of Scotland Neck, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.
PeeWee was born on July 2, 1942 to Howard and Wilkie Hale in Scotland Neck, NC. He married Lydia Stallings, the love of his life, on July 7, 1963 and to this marriage was born two children. PeeWee worked for Carolina Wood Preserve for many years and later for Sun Energy as a truck driver. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck. PeeWee served sixty plus years and acted as assistant chief for fifteen years for the Scotland Neck Volunteer Fire Department. Following retirement, he enjoyed working around town with his landscaping and driveway equipment. PeeWee was a man of the people and to know him was to love him. He will truly be missed around the town of Scotland Neck.
PeeWee was preceded in death by his father, Howard Leroy Hale, Sr.; his mother, Wilkie Hale; his son, Howard Jeffery “Jeff” Hale; his wife, Lydia Stallings Hale; his sister, Sylvia Cobb; and his half-brother, Sidney Beach.
PeeWee is survived by his daughter, Lorie Hale Davenport of New Bern; his grandson, Parker Davenport of New Bern; his brother, Andy Hale and his wife Bonnie of Delaware; his sister-in-law, Frances Beach of Wilson; his brother-in-law, Steve Cobb of Sharpsburg; his special friend, Donna Coleman of Scotland Neck; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, with Rev. Paul Spradley officiating. The burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck.
