ENFIELD – Hubert Rudolph “Rudy” Dickens, Jr. was born on June 14, 1949. He lived life to the fullest and was an avid sportsman. Although he hunted many kinds of game, he especially enjoyed hearing Smoky and Frank “tree coons.”  He loved spending time fishing in the Chesapeake Bay at Cape Charles, VA with his wife and best friend, Cindy. Other fishing buddies are too numerous to name. Rudy began fishing at an early age near his home in Beech Swamp with the Sorie boys. Rudy and Cindy rode horses for many years, a highlight being riding for a week in the Blue Ridge Wagon Train.

For 10 years Rudy worked for Columbian Peanut Company. He was then employed by Enfield Tractor, which became Premier Equipment, selling tractors and equipment for 44 years. Being blessed with the gift of gab, this was the perfect career for him.

In 1979 Rudy married a family. Cindy became his wife and 4-year-old Curry and 2-year-old Rebekah Roberts became his children. In addition to his wife and two children, Rudy is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Traci Roberts; his son-in-law, Reggie Stancil; his grandchildren, Curry, Jr., Noah, Gabriel, and Isabella Roberts; his great-grandchildren, Reid and Cole Roberts; his sister, Lulu Jones; and many, many relatives and friends from all walks of life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louie Harris and Hubert R. Dickens, Sr.; and his grandparents, J. Henry and Lula S. Harris.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Dawson Baptist Church, 9775 Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, NC, with Pastor Ricky Sorie officiating. A visitation with friends and family will precede the service at 1:00 p.m. Rudy will be laid to rest with other family members at Elmwood Cemetery in Enfield following the church service.

Flowers are welcome or memorial contributions made be made to the Dawson Baptist Church, 9775 Thirteen Bridges Road, Enfield, NC 27823 or online by clicking here.

Rudy’s favorite Bible verses were Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”

So sorry to hear of Rudy’s passing. We had fun times rock fishing on the Roanoke and Organ Inlet with my Grandfather and Uncle when I was a teenager.

So sorry to hear about Rudy. I actually called the Premier tractor company looking for a part for a mower. And I spoke about Rudy I know he’s not there he’s retired. The young guy said no Rudy passed away yesterday I was in shock. I was so sad to hear we just talked to him a couple years ago about a tractor and we decided to just wait. I’ve known Rudy my whole life from a young age my Daddy Francis Robertson cut his hair in Enfield. Sending prayers for his family ? may God give them comfort and peace ?️

I know Rudy and my daddy (Bill Shearin) are having a great time in Heaven reliving dove hunts and cooking at Seven Spot Hunting Club. And I’m sure Low Sorie is right there with them. When I was working in Enfield I always appreciated knowing Rudy was just down the road if I needed anything. Prayers lifted for the family.

God Bless,
Heather & Jason Cooke
