Mrs. Huldah Earle Branch Herman, age 98, born April 29, 1909 died at her home in Enfield, NC on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Her husband, Dr. Earle Herman preceded her in death in 1960. He was originally from Mt. Airy, NC and had practiced dentistry in Enfield, NC from 1925 until his death. Also preceding her in death are her parents, Ruth Stallings Branch and Frank Branch, her sister, Julia Branch Anderson and her husband, Alton and her daughter Emma Ruth Herman Sykes and her husband, Faris Sykes, Jr.
Huldah Herman was born to Ruth Stallings Branch and Frank Branch in Enfield, NC where she continued to live until her death. She was educated in the Enfield schools, spent two years at UNC at Greensboro and graduated with high honors from North Carolina State University in 1931 with a B.S. Degree from the School of Agriculture Engineering.
She was a life-long member of the Enfield Baptist Church where she was formerly a choir member, long time Sunday school teacher, deacon, and was active in all phases of the Woman’s Missionary Union. She was a member of the Alumni Association of North Carolina State University. She was a charter member of The Tuesday Afternoon Study Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Doris Earle Smith of Rocky Mount, NC, her grandchildren: Skipper Sykes and his wife, Laura of Nashville, NC , Earle Sykes and his wife, Amy of Rocky Mount, NC, Scott Sykes and his wife, Sarah of Scotland Neck, NC, Tyson Smith and his wife, Judith of Charleston, SC, and Paige Ritchie and her husband, B.J. of Cranston, RI, and her great-grandchildren: Collins, Travis, Shelly, Sarah Gregory, and John Colby Sykes, Denver Smith, Kyla and Tucker Ritchie.
