AULANDER, NC- Iris Rose Beasley Hurdle Lassiter, 84, of Aulander, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC

Iris was born on July 12, 1936 to Robert Cleveland and Mabel Lee Beasley in Johnston County, NC. Iris graduated from Clayton High School. She was a godly woman and a faithful member of Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church. She loved her community, was very civic oriented and enjoyed being a member of Millennium Civic Organization. She was always there to help in any way she could. Iris enjoyed quilting, eating out with the golden girls, cooking, being a member of The Red Hat Society. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Bobby Lawrence Hurdle, second husband, James Albert Lassiter; twelve brothers, Hubert, Sherwood, Thearl, Eldred, RC, Orville, Harold Lee, Odie, Charles, Milford, Roby and Earl Beasley; four sisters, Josephine Houston, Margaret Core, Mary Stanley and Maxine Beasley.

Left to cherish Iris’ memory is her daughter, Stephanie Ann Lambert and husband Ted of Franklin, NC; two sons, Brian Keith Hurdle and wife Ann of Jackson, NC, and Mike Vaughan and wife Titia of Aulander, NC; six grandsons, Quinton Lassiter and wife Mindy of Sylva, Jamison Lassiter of Sylva, Braxton Hurdle and wife Amanda of Grimesland, Conner Hurdle of Jackson, Cody Hurdle of Jackson, Michael Vaughan and wife Sarah of Aulander; three granddaughters, LeAnn Lassiter of Sylva, Monica Lambert of Cherokee, and Alicia Lambert of Cherokee; seven great-granddaughters, Alexis, Presley, Hailey, Abby, Kaylee, Allyson, and Morgan; four great-grandsons, Gavin, Hunter, Ayden, Gabe; a very special friend, Lucille Brown, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Due to the COVID pandemic, the family has set aside a time for visitation will be at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Due to the circumstances the family ask that you speak to them during this time at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC. Guest will be asked to wear face coverings, limit their time, and social distance while in attendance.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 25, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Millennium Pentecostal Holiness Church, Aulander, NC, with Pastor Taylor Latham, officiating. Burial will follow at Job cemetery, Aulander, NC.

My prayers are with the family during this time of accepting the beautiful homecoming Iris experienced. She was a dear friend to all and we will surely miss her. May your memories comfort you and give you peace.

I’m so sorry for the loss of a great aunt. When she was around we always had a lot of laughter and always lit up a room with her presence. She will always be in my heart as she was loved by so many. Though I am so sorry I missed her service I pray for the family that you hey may have peace and understanding with her passing. Love You Always.

Keith & Ann,
I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Iris will surely be missed. I have so many memories of her & Aunt Jo coming down to Aunt Margaret’s and what I time that was. I laughed until I cried. May God give you peace & comfort in knowing she is not suffering. I can just imagine the reunion she, Aunt Jo & Aunt Margaret are having right now. Love you both. Darlene

I remember how she and all the others worked so hard making that homemade Brunswick Stew to sell for the Ladies Auxiliary so many years.
