James Aubrey Pittman, of 1309 Dancy Street, Tarboro, formerly of Scotland Neck, died on June 29, 2008 following a brave fight against cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Scotland Neck.
Jim was born on January 21, 1942, the first of three children. He graduated from Scotland Neck High School in 1960. Jim attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later graduated from Campbell University in 1964. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and trained as a cryptographer. He received an honorable discharge following the untimely death of his father in 1967. Jim then came home to assume management of the family business, Home Insurance Agency, until it was sold in 1990. Subsequent to the sale of the agency, he worked as both a computer technician and life insurance agent.
Jim loved very much his family, friends, and hometown of Scotland Neck. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, and over the years served as a member of the choir, the vestry, and as lay reader. Through the years, his favorite hobbies included singing, fishing, photography, computing, reading, and watching Carolina basketball.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Laertes Pittman; mother, Peggy Perry Pittman, and brother, L. Perry Pittman.
Jim is survived by his wife, Maragret Holmes Pittman of the home; sister, Amy Pittman Hughes of Wilson; and sons, James Aubrey Pittman, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Ashley Norfleet Pittman and wife Cynthia Gayle Pittman of Raleigh.
The Pittman family would like to thank Jim’s many friends and the congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church for their prayers and support during his illness.
