Jim attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later graduated from Campbell University in 1964. He then enlisted in the United States Air Force and trained as a cryptographer. Through the years, his favorite hobbies included singing, fishing, photography, computing, reading, and watching Carolina basketball.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Laertes Pittman; mother, Peggy Perry Pittman, and brother, L. Perry Pittman.

Jim is survived by his wife, Maragret Holmes Pittman of the home; sister, Amy Pittman Hughes of Wilson; and sons, James Aubrey Pittman, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Ashley Norfleet Pittman and wife Cynthia Gayle Pittman of Raleigh.

The Pittman family would like to thank Jim’s many friends and the congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church for their prayers and support during his illness.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 372, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or to the American Cancer Society, 930 Wellness Drive #B, Greenville, NC 27834.
