AHOSKIE, NC – James Melvin Belangia, born on July 18, 1955, peacefully passed away on September 13, 2023, at the age of 68 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. He was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, to his loving parents, Melvin and Flora Belangia.

James dedicated much of his life to his work at Freeman Casket Co., where he remained until his health no longer permitted. He was a diligent and hardworking individual, always giving his best to his profession.

Outside of work, James had a deep passion for motorcycles. He found solace and freedom in riding, constantly chasing the wind on his beloved bike. He also had a great love for the outdoors, spending his leisure time fishing and hunting. Above all, he cherished the moments shared with his grandchildren, finding joy and fulfillment in their company. During this difficult time, may we find solace in the memories we shared with James and may his soul rest in eternal peace.

James is preceded in death by his father, Melvin Belangia, his mother, Flora Belangia, his stepdaughter, Debbie Jean Joyner, and his sister, Virginia Belangia. Their memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved them.

James is survived by his loving wife, Mary, stepson, Tommy Lee Swain and wife Amy of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Austin Swain, Anna Swain, and Danny Taylor; brother, Wesley Belangia and wife Dianna of Murfreesboro; and two sisters, Theresa Belangia, and Betty Jo Belangia, both of Raleigh.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service in honor of James’ life on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at 1:00 pm at The Lord’s House of Prayer in Woodland, NC.

Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service is assisting with the cremation for the Belangia family. Online condolences can be shared with the family by visiting www.garrettsykesfs.com.

James will be missed by all that have known him. He was faithful to his church, sitting on the front pew everytime the church doors were open. Mary Lou stood by James on all his health issues and she will miss him but now he can run free to the arms of the Lord! Prayers to all the family, especially Lou, my sister by marriage. Buddy and I love you…
