MURFREESBORO, NC – Jane Brown Carter, age 83, passed away on July 1, 2019 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Hertford County, Mrs. Carter was born on November 25, 1935 to Robert James and Velma Peede Brown in Ahoskie, NC. Jane worked as a waitress most of her life. She was a member of Kingdom Hall. Jane was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Jane taught them how to make sun tea and taught them not to drink coffee because it would make them ugly and make their teeth fall out. She enjoyed sewing, cross stitching, hummingbirds, and spending time outdoors doing yard work. Jane was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Johnny Brown.

Jane is survived by her six daughters; Debra “Debbie” Barnes of Woodland, NC, Virginia “Ginny” Lewis and husband George of Roanoke Rapids, Lynn Carter Reynolds of Murfreesboro, Diane Carter of Roanoke Rapids, Susan Hall of Murfreesboro, and Betty Carter of Roanoke Rapids, one son, Harry “Buddy” Carter of Roanoke Rapids, fourteen grandchildren; Le’Trisha, Ann Marie, Tasha, Rhonda, Corie, April, Rebecca, Keith, Joshua, Tiera, Raven, Brandon, Jonathan, Heather, twelve great grandchildren; Hunter, Cody, Bryce, Jaiden, Trey, Tyler, Ariyonah, Ken’Asia, Jason, D’liyah, Iona, Brendan, two brothers; Thelbert Ray Brown of Morehead City, NC, and Jimmy Brown and wife Delores of Aulander, NC, two special caregivers; Kana and Carrie; along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held Friday, July 5, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Mr. Thomas Holley speaking. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
