Janie Nelson Sumner, age 80 died at Rich Square Health Care Center in Rich Square on Thursday, June 14, 2012. She was a native of Northampton County. Mrs. Sumner was a member of Rich Square United Methodist Church where she was a very hard worker. She was a member of Methodist Women, Sunday School Superintendent for the children’s department and Church Treasurer for many years. Mrs. Sumner was always doing for her family, especially her twin grandsons. Mrs. Sumner was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother, caring for her family dearly. She also had a love of flowers.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Donald E. Sumner and her parents, Buxton and Mamie Nelson.
Surviving are her daughter, Sue Beal and her husband Mike of Kinston; two grandsons, Donald Beal of Kinston and Douglas Beal of Greenville, two sisters; Frances Boykin and late husband Alton of Smithfield and Margaret Harrell and late husband Ervin of Elizabeth City, three brothers; W.C. Nelson and his wife Marie of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Floyd Nelson of Rich Square and Gene Nelson and his wife Dot of Roanoke Rapids.
TO THE SUMNER FAMILY
I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Janie passing away. I was attending my brother’s funeral in Florida and did not know about her leaving us.
Just know I am so sorry about her passing and just know she was the nicest person I have met and so sweet and kind to everyone.
She will be missed by everyone in Rich Square.
You have my heart felt sympathy for the loss of your mother and grandmother.
Your mother was one of the nicest women I have ever known.
