ROXOBEL, NC – Jean Harrington Norfleet, age 88, of Roxobel, passed away peacefully at her home on August 3, 2018, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Norfleet was born in Lewiston-Woodville, Bertie County, on December 7, 1929, a daughter of the late Julian Picott and Ethel Mae Barnes Harrington. Jean attended East Carolina Teachers College. She worked for Wormack Lumber Company and was an accountant at Harrington Manufacturing Company, which her father started. When her daughter was born, she stayed at home to raise her.
Jean and Bill’s courtship and marriage lasted for 68 years. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, and Aunt Jean to many.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph Julian “Monk” Harrington, and beloved sister, Ann Harrington Cullifer.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband William S. Norfleet, Jr.; her daughter, Jeanne Norfleet Brinkley, and husband, Ralph; two granddaughters, Jenny Vaughan and husband, Bill, and Amy Roberts and husband, Josh; great grandson, Lil’ Bill and great granddaughter, Katie.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Mrs. Norfleet’s caregiver, Marjorie Bazemore and her husband, Otis, for the kind and compassionate care they gave.
A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, August 5, 2018, 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, with the Rev. Greg Hurdle officiating. The family will receive friends in the chapel, immediately following the service, or any time at the home. Burial will be in the Norfleet Family Cemetery, Roxobel, NC.

One of my very favorite cousins! She and Ann and Mary Margaret were the three who tolerated Pat and me as we followed them around Uncle Picot and Aunt Ethel’s house, fatherless girls that we became.
