Jessie C. ‘Grandma’ Johnson, age 88, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away Tuesday, August 7th, 2012, peacefully at Wake Medical Center with family by her side.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband, James Edgar Johnson, Sr.; parents, James Edgar Chappell, Sr., and Celia Cash Chappell; brother, James Edgar Chappell, Jr. and a sister, Peggy C. Strickland
Jessie, a native of Northampton County, retired from Mylecraft Manufacturing Company in Rich Square. She was active in Northampton County Home Demonstration for many years. She was also well known for her great cooking and was an excellent seamstress. Her favorite past-time passion was going ballroom dancing with her husband, Dick Johnson.
There was no greater joy in her life than spending time with her family. She was always thinking of others before herself. We will be forever grateful for the family values she taught us. We thank her for sharing her beautiful life with so many. She left us with the memory of a special quote when asked how she was doing no matter how good or bad of a day she was having she would always say ‘I’m Fine’.
Survivors include her son, Billy Johnson of Roanoke Rapids, NC and his children, Thomas Johnson and wife, Catia, of Florida, their children Luca and Max, Jason Barnes, Amber Johnson and her child, Noah, Nicole Jenkins and husband, Mike, their child, Nicholas, Jeff Wilhelm and wife, Susan; a son, Dickie Johnson and wife, Patricia of Knightdale, NC and their son, Keith Johnson; a son, Mike Johnson and wife, Kim of Jackson, NC and their children, Mike Johnson and wife, Chris, and their children, Brooke and Madison, Cliff Johnson and wife Carmen, and their children, Carson and Catherine, Lauren J. Hasty and husband, Nick, and Brad Johnson; a son, David Johnson and wife, Denise of Rocky Mount, NC and their children, Ivey J. Locke and husband, Davis and their child, Anna Ivey, and David Johnson, Jr.; a daughter, Joy J. Hurdle of Jackson, NC, and her children, Chad Warrick and wife, Farrah, and their children, Kyli, Bryson, and Malori, Angel Rawls and husband, Chad, and their child, Camryn, and Joy’s younger children, Braxton, Conner, and Cody Hurdle; her sisters, Sarah Elizabeth Futrell of Rich Square, NC, and Mary Lou Faircloth of Burgaw, NC.
Dear David and Family,
I will always remember your mom as a wonderful, soft-spoken person that loved everyone. You all were so blessed to have her. My thoughts and prayers will be with you today during the service. I am sorry that I cannot attend.
So very sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. She was a beautiful person inside and out.
