Mrs. Jo Ann Martin Vann, age 64 died on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at the Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, NC. Mrs. Vann a native of Hertford County was born to Rachel H. Martin and Joseph H. Martin on May 2, 1948. She was married to Elmer Lee Vann and to this marriage was born two children. Mrs. Vann was a member of the Holly Springs Baptist Church in Cofield, NC. She worked for the News Herald of Ahoskie for some twenty-five years. She enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers. Mrs. Vann was a very loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death is her daughter, Sheri Paige Vann, her mother and father, Rachel H. Martin and Joseph Henry Martin.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Lee Vann, one son, Michael Jarvis Vann and his special friend Jerri Kay Liverman all of Ahoskie, NC. Also surviving are three sisters, Jeanne C. Dilday, Gwendolyn M. Ayers and her husband Robert and Kathy D. Leonard and her husband Butch all of Ahoskie, NC, one brother Donnie Martin and his wife Gail of South Boston, VA and two grandchildren, Clinton Lee Vann and Kellie Marie Vann.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 11 AM at the Holly Springs Baptist Church in Cofield, NC with the Rev. Gilbert Crawford officiating. The burial will follow at the Holly Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie on Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 PM.
I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Jo Ann for several years. She always had a smile to share. What a great way to remember her.God Bless.
She was the best grandmother i could have ever asked for even after my mom and mike split up she still loved me and my sister with all she had i will miss her and think of her everyday

Jo Ann has always been a part of my family. she helped me so much in my teens. Thank you so much for being a part of my live and always smiling. I will miss our long talks and your hugs. I pray for God to give Mike and Elmer the comfort they need at this time.

What a honor to have known Jo Ann….. we were not kin but she sure would have made me a nice sister. I am going to miss her… Jo Ann and Elmer were at all of our family gatherings.
So sorry to hear about JoAnn,I worked with her when our son James delivered the paper. We had a many a good talk about kids, family ,& life in general. She was a very special person, and she will surely be missed by many.
