Mr. Williams was born on August 14, 1944 to Benjamin and Violet Harrell Williams in Norfolk, VA. Joe was a graduate of Ahoskie High School. During his time at Ahoskie High, he was both a star in the classroom and in athletics, playing football, basketball, and baseball. He was the quarterback on the 1961 Ahoskie State Championship football team.

After service in the Air Force, Joe returned to NC State and earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He then worked as an electrical engineer for Carolina, Power and Light in Raleigh until his retirement.

Joe was married to the former Joyce Bartholomew of New Bern before divorcing.

In his later years Joe moved from Raleigh to Ahoskie to assist with in-home care for his aging mother. Joe had a deep love of Poetry, reading, and animals.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin Everett Williams.

Joseph is survived by his loving mother, Violet Williams of Ahoskie, brother, Bennett Williams of Highlands, NC; and a nephew, Benjamin Truston Williams of Atlanta, GA, and his beloved dog, Woody.

Bennett and Violet – our thoughts and prayers go out to you in your grief. Joe’s untimely passing brings back memories of our families’ vacations at Carolina Beach where we enjoyed Britt’s Donuts. May we all rely on these happier reminiscences to give us comfort at this sad time.
