I was very sad to learn of J.D. passing on. He and I were in school together at Ahoskie High School and graduated together. We also went to church together in Powellsville. He always showed lots of happiness, always greeted people with a smile. He was a real joy and I know that everyone who knew him will miss him. May God comfort his family & friends.

JD was my brother in law married to sister Judy. I will always remember him smiling all the time and being comical. He always stepped forward to help others without being asked. Never asked for praise or recognition. Now Judy and JD are together. They were in love since school days.

JD was a kind, gentle person and was a very special friend on mine. We met and worked together back in the 60’s at Union Camp. We lost touch with each other when he left the mill years before I did. (He was always smarter than I). Thankfully I located him about 6 years ago and got together everytime we could. He was like another brother to me. We had so much in common, whether family, friends, memories or world affairs. I shall be thankful for the Saturday Barbara allowed myself and my wife Pat to visit JD and her at their home in Smithfield. When we were finally ready to leave we shared our goodbyes knowing it would be the last time on this earth we would see other. We shared many things, people, crazy things we did at Union Camp and how our paths had diverged and then again joined allowing us to renew our friendship. Until then…REST IN PEACE, MY FRIEND, BROTHER!

So sad to see family leave us. You were just 14 when Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jarvis adopted me and I became a part of the family. You always treated me with love. God bless and keep you all.
