CONWAY, NC – John Carlston “JC” Pope, age 72, passed away on April 23, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Pope was born on June 9, 1944 to John Burton and Louise Taylor Pope in Seaboard, NC. JC was one of ten children. He was a hardworking sawmill foreman for most of his life. He enjoyed working with wood. JC was an avid sportsman, especially watching Carolina basketball, going to softball games, and Nascar as well, a huge fan of Bill Elliot. He was a member of the Cars R Fun Club and enjoyed going to car shows. His favorite pastime was taking his wife for a ride in his California special mustang. JC was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. JC had a great sense of humor that was loved by all. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Alton and Roy Pope.
JC is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sarah, two daughters, Cheryl Pope Wheeler and husband Marvin of Littleton, NC, and Amy Pope Woodard and husband Brent of Jackson, NC; granddaughter, Lauren Wheeler; two grandsons, Ryan Wheeler, and Dylan Woodard; ; two sisters, Evelyn Pope Bryant and husband Linwood of Rich Square, NC, Annette Pope Ricks and husband Clifton of Conway, NC; five brothers, Donald Ray Pope and wife Sandra Kay of Conway, NC, Thomas Pope and wife Susan of Conway, NC, Bailey Pope and wife Kaye of Seaboard, NC, Jimmy Pope and wife Fran of Seaboard, NC, Chuck Pope and wife Leneau of Seaboard, NC; sister-in-law, Margaret Pope of Conway, NC; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, Rich Square, NC, and other times at the home.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 27, 2017, at 2:00 pm at the Galatia Baptist Church, Seaboard, NC, with Rev. David Foster, officiating. Burial will follow at Conway Cemetery, Conway, NC.
