AHOSKIE – Johnnie Lou Castelloe Ward, age 93, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Guardian Care of Scotland Neck. She was born in Hertford County on October 1, 1918.
Mrs. Ward graduated from Gilchrist School of Beauty and Culture and she taught art until her retirement. She was a long time member of West Side Hill Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA.
Left to cherish her memory is sons, Luther H. Ward Jr. of Fort Meyers, FL, and Gary S. Ward of Virginia Beach, VA; four grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Ward was predeceased by a daughter, Cathy Ward of Virginia Beach, VA.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Altmeyer Funeral Home Southside Chapel in Virginia Beach. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to all the family of Johnnie Lou. You may remember me, I was married to Zane Ward, Roland Wards son and nephew to Luke. I always liked Johnnie Lou, she was always so kind to me in thoes early days and years of marriage with meeting all of Zane’s family. I had lost touch with her and had often wondered about where she was. Glad to see she had a long life. I also extend my sympathies regarding Cathy, I did not know she has passed away also. Aunt Joni was a special member of our family and she will truly be missed by all of us. She will always have a special place in our thoughts and we will always hold special memories of her.
