Johnny Ray Ayers, age 66, passed away on July 16, 2023, at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie. Johnny was born on October 12, 1956, in Ahoskie, the son of the late Doris Ayers and Charlie Ayers.

Johnny was a self-employed construction worker, dedicating his life to honing his skills and contributing to the community through his craftsmanship. He found joy in his work and took pride in the projects he completed.

A faithful member of United Outreach Ministries in Windsor, NC, Johnny found solace in his religious beliefs and the support of his church community. He lived as a free spirit, embracing life’s adventures and cherishing the moments that brought him happiness.

Johnny is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Ayers; father, Charlie Ayers; brothers, Robert Hunter Ayers and Charlie Winfred Ayers; step-sons, Jimmy Jones and Steve Jones.

Left to cherish his memory is his partner, Vanessa Perry of Colerain, NC; his sisters, Carol Jackson of Ahoskie, NC, Linda Brown (Tim) of Ahoskie, NC, Betty Hill of Windsor, NC; brothers, Carlton Cherry of Washington, NC, Irvin (Mary) Ayers of Ahoskie, NC, James Ayers of Ahoskie, NC; step-son, Greg Jones of Maury, NC; step-daughter, Rhonda (Randy) Britton of Edenton, NC; and a host of other family members and friends.

Friends and loved ones are invited to gather for visitation at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm, and other times at the home of his sister, Linda Brown, 209 Jernigan Airport Rd., Ahoskie, NC. A celebration of Johnny’s life will be held at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service-Ahoskie Chapel on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. J. R. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow at Ahoskie Cemetery.
