Josef Privette Fanney, 74, died Saturday, August 1, 2009 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Baptist Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Martha Stebbins will be presiding.
Josef was retired from Sprint Telephone Company in Tarboro.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Condrey Fanney; daughters, Theresa Fanney of Chesapeake, VA and Jo Ann Fanney Hux and husband Ricky of Scotland Neck and Hillsborough; adopted children, Pam Norborg of Bunn and Jerome Smeets of Belgium; sister, Gretchen Fanney Wyatt of Greensboro; brother, Dr. Grafton Fanney and wife Elaine of Cleveland, OH and Bonita Springs, FL; sister-in-law, Alethia Anderson of Bath; four granddaughters, Mary Van Dempsey of Hillsborough, Nikki Hux of Tarboro, and Leigh Butler and Bethany Hux both of Scotland Neck; four great-grandchildren; and ten nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 372, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or to the Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park and Eco Center, P.O. Drawer 368, Scotland Neck, NC 27874.
