WOODLAND, NC – Joseph “Joe” Pritchard Brown, Jr., age 90, of Joe Brown Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at his home surrounded by his beloved family.
Mr. Brown was born on November 25, 1929 to the late Joseph Pritchard Brown, Sr. and Aileen Autrey Brown in Richmond, VA. Joe loved Woodland and spent his life serving the community, always extending a helping hand when he could. He has been a dairy farmer for Maola Milk company for many years and loved his cows, calling most by their name. Although Joe could be stubborn and set in his ways, he loved his family dearly and was always there for them. He was a Master Gardener and a devoted member of The Cedar Grove Friends Meeting, being recorded as Elder in 1991. Joe was also a member of Woodland Men’s Club for many years, served on the board at Pine Forest Rest Home, served on the Board of Directors for North Carolina Farm Bureau, and took care of many other civic duties for the community building in Woodland. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Bert of 67 plus years, three daughters, Kaye Brown Russell and husband David of Durham, NC, Barbie Brown Hepler and husband Will of Timberlake, NC, and Patricia Brown Canady and husband Lin of Potecasi; three granddaughters, Marci Russell of Durham, Jailyn Russell of Durham, and Kimberly (Steven) Woollen of Southport, NC; four grandsons, Bryan (Kerri) Hepler of Holly Ridge, NC, Matthew (Emily) Hepler of Leasburg, NC, Jeremy (Kimberly) Canady of Margarettsville, NC, and Gregory (Amber) Canady of Woodland; four great-granddaughters, Claire Hepler, Brimlee Hepler, Zoey Hepler, and Natalie Canady; four great-grandsons, Barrett Woollen, Addis Woollen, Kai Woollen, and Cooper Canady; sister, Autrey Brown Jenkins of Woodland; niece, Aileen Jenkins Staples of Wake Forest, NC; nephew, Dwight (Catherine) Jenkins of Kernersville, NC; along with several great nieces and great-nephews, and many friends.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2020, 2:00 pm at the Cedar Grove Friends Meeting House, Woodland, NC with Minister Robert Gosney and Rev. Dr. J Brabban presiding. Burial will follow in the Quaker Cemetery, Woodland, NC.

Joe Brown was a good man. A friend and Christian brother. He loved his family and community. I thank the Lord for him, and will always remember him. Prayers to Bert and family for peace and strength.
