ENFIELD, NC – Joyce Deanes Langston Putnam, age 78, passed away on August 14, 2021, at her home, surrounded by her family.

Mrs. Putnam was born in Murfreesboro, NC, on September 17, 1942, a daughter of the late Benjamin Fredrick and Lessie Virginia Vick Deanes. Joyce was an active member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church for many years until she joined Rehoboth United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC, where she continued to be active in many church activities.  She was a graduate of Murfreesboro High School and attended Chowan College where she earned an associate degree in Business.  Joyce had a talent for music and demonstrated that talent by playing piano and organ and singing in the choir.  She loved her grandchildren and great-granddaughter and was affectionately called “G-Ma” by some of her grandsons.  Joyce loved entertaining others with her famous rendition of Carol Burnette’s “Cleanup Woman” and performing as one to the California Raisins at many family celebrations.  Joyce loved her pets throughout her life, especially her dogs, Jake and Bingo.  She was a kind-hearted, compassionate and generous woman who loved the Lord.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Langston; and her brothers, Benjamin “Freddie” Deanes, William “Billy” Deanes, and Jeffrey Lynn Deanes.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Larry G. Putnam, her son, William “Bill” Isaac Langston, Jr. of Lasker, NC; her daughter, Debra Langston Williams of Plymouth, NC; her grandchildren, Heather Diana (Eric) Wilson of Grimesland, NC, Stephen Michael Langston of Jesup, GA;  Aaron Williams of Greenville, NC, David Williams of Plymouth, NC; and Noah Williams of Greenville, NC; a great granddaughter, Addison Charlotte Wilson of Grimesland, NC; five sisters, Vickie (Mike) Hunnings of Suffolk, VA, Barbara (Wayne) Benton of Ahoskie, NC, Nancy (Cumin) Brittenham of Aulander, NC, Connie (Tommy) Parker of Aulander, NC, and Sandra (Rick) Nabinger of Ahoskie, NC; two brothers, Tommy (Gayle) Deanes of Aulander, NC, and Joseph (Katherine) Deanes of Clarksville, GA; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, August 16, 2021, from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC.

A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Jackson, NC, with Rev. Randy Crowder officiating.  Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro, NC.

Joyce Ann was a loving and ever giving person who cared for so many people, loved all her family and was proud of them, and was the life of any party, especially if there was a pot of coffee and a board game involved. Love to all the Deanes family.

Ms Joyce was such a sweet lady always joyful and her voice could lift you up on a cloudy day. I enjoyed the years we spent together at the 65 Swim Club in Murfreesboro and also the many years she graced us with her beautiful voice at the Candelight Christmas Tour in the country store. Missed her the past few years and lost touch. Heaven has gained another singing angel.Much love to all the family.
