Julia Daphne Tyler Gramm Love passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at Bryan Health and Rehabilitation in Scotland Neck.

She was born on October 10, 1936 in Roxobel, NC to Ashley Liverman Tyler and Fannie Mae Smith Tyler.  Julia grew up on a farm and loved to talk about how she was expected to work and help out on the farm.  She and her mother would cook  for the men who would come to hunt with her dad on the property.

Julia graduated from Roxobel High School and after graduation joined the US Army.  She was stationed at the Pentagon in Washington DC for three years.  Wanting to see more of the world, Julia became a stewardess in 1958, flying with Allegheny Airlines  and later American Airlines.  It was during this time that she met the love of her life, Frank Galbraith Gramm, Jr., whom she married in 1962. She and Frank resided in Chicago, Illinois and in March 1964 welcomed their son, Charles Philip Gramm.

Frank’s job took them all over the world. They lived in Bologna, Italy for 4 years and Tokyo, Japan for another 4 years.  They returned to the United States settling in Hilton Head, SC, where Julia spent time perfecting her golf game.  She was smart and curious and decided she needed more than golf to fill her time.  Julia enrolled in the University of South Carolina and graduated with a nursing degree in 1985. She worked as an RN for Richland Hospital for nearly 17 years, eventually working her way up to head ICU nurse.

Her son, Charles, was her pride and joy. They enjoyed going on road trips together and summer trips to the beach.

In 1991 her husband, Frank, passed away.  She later found loving companionship with her friend and neighbor, Maxey D Love, Jr., and they married in 2002. They both loved to travel and shared many exciting adventures together.

Julia loved to tell stories about her trips and adventures and loved nature and animals.  She had beautiful bird feeders and always made sure the squirrels and birds in her yard were well fed.  She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend who will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents and both her husbands, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Tyler Davis.

Julia is survived by her son, Charles Gramm of Rich Square; her step-son, Larry Love (Robin) of Columbia, SC; her step-daughters, Donna Love Treu (Michael) of Columbia, SC and Cathi Love Lunceford of Columbia, SC; and her brothers, Butch Tyler (Theresa) of Rich Square, Mike Tyler (Joyce) of Aulander, Ashley Tyler (Ortrud) of Oak Island, and Joseph Tyler of Ahoskie.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Rich Square Chapel, with Pastor David Walther presiding.  Interment will follow at the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery.

Julia was a kind and special person. She was in my nursing school class and we graduated nursing school together and later worked in the Richland ICU together. She was a beautiful lady with a huge heart. An exceptional nurse. She also had a great sense of humor. She was full of life and respected by all the nurses she worked with over the years. A privilege to have known her and work with her. Rest In Peace, dear Julia. My condolences to Charlie and her family.
