MURFREESBORO, NC – June Tucker Sowell, age 86, of Pecan Street, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at the home of her son, Richard in Alexandria, VA.
Mrs. Sowell was born on August 26, 1934 to Joseph Tucker and Arkie Jones Tucker in Sligo, NC. June was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, and friend. She was a devoted member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church and a member of The Exchangettes in Murfreesboro. She enjoyed her time as a Cheer Leader at Chowan College and a former Cub Scout leader. She was a great cook and gardener and one of her favorite things to do was going out to eat and socializing. June was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, William “Bill” Berry Sowell, and brothers; Buddy and Billy Tucker.
June is survived by her daughter, Wanda Sowell Rawlin of Virginia Beach, VA; two sons, Berry Sowell and wife, Terri of Dothan, AL, and Richard Joseph Sowell of Alexandria, VA; three grandsons, William Colby Sowell and David Seth Rawlin, both of Nashville, TN, and William Thomas Sowell of Alexandria, VA; two granddaughters, Casey Sowell Wolfe and husband Riley, of Huntsville, AL, and Katherine Anne Sowell of Alexandra, VA; two great-grandsons; William Fitzpatrick Wolfe, and Tucker West Wolfe; and two sisters, twin, Joan Umstead of Newbern, NC, and Jean Oren of Shalimar, FL.
Due to the Covid-19 circumstances, the public is welcome to visit Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel to sign the register and pay their respects on Saturday, December 5, 2020 between 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm. There will be a private Celebration of Life Graveside Service Sunday afternoon at Riverside Cemetery in Murfreesboro with Rev. Jason Villegas officiating.
