Aulander, NC – Larry Edward Rawls, age 71, of Rawls Road, passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at the ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.

Larry was born on May 29, 1951 to Leon Henry Rawls and Lessie Lillian Dempsey Rawls in Ahoskie, NC. He served his country proudly in the United States Air Force for 23 years. During that time, he was stationed in Thailand during the Vietnam War as ground support loading B52 Bombers with weapons. Upon moving into the personal field, Larry received numerous awards and ribbons, where his true dedication to the military and his country showed. Larry had a lifetime passion for fishing and hunting and upon retiring he was able to enjoy his love of being an avid fisherman and hunter. His top priority was always his family, especially his grandchildren, spending as much time as he could with them. Larry enjoyed watching westerns on the television and hanging out with his friends outside in the garage cooking on the grill and fellowshipping. Larry was loved by all and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Morley, brothers; Joseph “Pete” Luther Rawls, and Gerald Dale Rawls; a sister, Marian Auker.

Larry is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat, his son, Kevin Michael Rawls and wife Chris of Ahoskie, NC; granddaughter, Cortney Morley; three grandsons, Daniel Morley, Kaden Rawls, and Caleb Rawls; son in law, Nathan Morley; three sisters, Shelba Jean Kessinger and husband Bill of Charleston, Eileen Rawls Liverman of Aulander, and Maxine Dunning of Mechanicsville; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to a celebration of life service at 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Oscar Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Job cemetery with military honors.
