MURFREESBORO, NC – Larry Wilson Futrell, age 79, passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2022.

Mr. Futrell was born in Northampton County, NC, on September 18, 1943, a son of the late Kelly C. and Margaret Futrell. Larry was employed at Union Camp Corporation, on February 14, 1965. He started off in the sheet finishing plant and ended his career as a welder in the maintenance department. Union Camp was sold to International Paper Company where he retired after 40 years of service. He was an active member of Murfreesboro Baptist Church, where he participated in the choir and Sunday school.

Larry lived a very active life; some of the things he enjoyed included playing guitar with the Potecasi Band, riding horses with his grandchildren, and fishing with his brother-in-law and friends. He also enjoyed many sports, but especially traveling to see his granddaughters play soccer. Larry enjoyed painting, karate, traveling with his wife, Earlene and friends, and spending time with his family at Lake Gaston.

Besides his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his siblings, Kelly C. Futrell, Jr., Roy Chestine Futrell, Rebecca F. Edwards, and Susie F. Willis; his mother-in-law, Nellie B. Shewbart; and nephews, Roy C. Futrell, Jr., and Christopher Edwards.

Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, Earlene S. Futrell, his son, Jeffrey Futrell and wife, Debra of Wilson, NC; two granddaughters, Georgia Pearson Futrell, and Emilee W. Futrell of Wilson, NC; brother Robert M. Futrell and wife, Dianne P. Futrell, and sister-in-law, Patti S. Llewellyn and husband, Jeff. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Terry, Futrell, Tina Futrell, Gay Whitley, Renee Jilcott, Kim Ricks, Lisa Futrell, Tammy Bowen, Kelly Lockhart, Margaret Hill, Brian Edwards, Cliff Futrell and Robbie Futrell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 6:30 until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Murfreesboro, NC

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Murfressboro Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, NC, with Rev. Dr. Rick Bailey, officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC.

Earlene,

I was so saddened to learn about the passing of Larry but glad to read about his involved in the Murfreesboro Baptist Church. I watched a video of the two of you dancing at our 2015 high school reunion and you did it so skillfully. I remembered you and your family in prayer at the worship service I conducted on Sunday. May God comfort you with the promises of Scripture, the love of people, and the ministry of the Spirit of God.
