SUFFOLK, VA – Lee Duwane Chavis, Jr., age 65, formerly of Winton, passed away on September 7, 2022, at the ECU Health Inpatient Hospice of Greenville, NC.

Mr. Chavis was born in Suffolk, VA, on August 30, 1957, a son of the late Lee Duwane, Sr. and Delois Butler Chavez. Lee was one who loved to learn, earning a double bachelor’s degree with honors from UNC-CH, attended law school, and worked on a Master’s in Education. He had a variety of skills in the employment field, having worked in the restaurant industry and education, and later was a screen writer. He was also a talented musician and violinist where he won many awards and scholarships as a young adult.

He was preceded in death by Father, Lee Duwane Chavis, Sr., Mother, Delois Chavez, and sister DeAnne Chavis.

Left to cherish Lee’s memory is his son, Ricardo Agostino Chavis of Washington, DC; two sisters, his twin Duvonya Chavis of Suffolk, VA, and Denyce C. Hall and husband, Terry, of Winton, NC; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Per Lee’s wishes, there will be no service at this time. The family will have a private memorial gathering at a later date.
