Lena Partin Simmons, 77, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at her home.

Lena was born on July 18, 1940 to the late William Thurman Partin and Gertrude Best Partin.  A loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, Lena was a member of Dawson Baptist Church.  She loved gardening and planting flowers, especially roses.  A true believer in taking care of everyone’s business, she loved cutting up with people, going out to eat with her friends, and picking butter beans when it was hot.  Her spirit and love of life will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Lena was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, James Edward “Jimmy” Simmons, Jr.; and her son, James Edward “Jim” Simmons, III.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Schilling of Charlotte and Stavie Thompson and husband Mike of Wake Forest; her brother, William “Bill” Partin, Jr. and wife Joyce of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Simmons Partin Thompson, Kirsten Thompson Patrick and husband Matt, James Edward Simmons, IV, and Adair Rose Simmons; and her special friend, William Draper of Scotland Neck.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2018 at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck.

A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 2, 2018 at Dawson Baptist Church.  Interment will follow at the Baptist Cemetery.  The Reverend Ricky Sorie and the Reverend Tim Rogers will be presiding.

we met Lena and Jimmy on a trip back from Washington. We stopped at their house after learning their son was engaged to our daughter. She made us tomato sandwiches from her garden. They were wonderful sandwiches and we loved Lena and Jimmy right away. We met the whole family and loved them too. We will miss Lena as we have Jimmy and Jim but we know where they are, not far away. I know we will see them again. our deepest sympathy to “Her Girls” and those who loved her. She was a very special lady and friend. We are blessed to have known her.

Sorry for your loss. May you find comfort in knowing that your dear one is safe in the memory of God, who will remember every detail about her and bring her back again. John 5:28, 29 gives this assurance.
