AHOSKIE, NC – Lloyd Carl “L.C.” Jernigan, Sr., age 76, of Mitchell Road, passed away on Sunday, April 2, 2023 at his home.
Mr. Jernigan was born on May 24, 1946 to Lloyd Herman Jernigan and Edith Jan Williams Jernigan in Colerain, NC. L.C. lost his parents at an early age and was raised by Harvey and Mabel Jernigan. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He spent his life as a construction worker as long as his health permitted. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting. L.C. cherished his family, especially his children, he loved them dearly and huge family get together’s whenever possible. He also enjoyed gardening and reaping the benefits during harvest. L.C. was loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
Along with his biological parents, he was preceded in death by his loving family that raised him, Harvey and Mabel Jernigan, and a sister, Mary Jernigan.
L.C. is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Charlotte, four children, Maxine Stroud (Brian) of Ahoskie, Lloyd “Sonny” Jernigan, Jr. (Sherry Felton) of Powellsville, Sherrie Elson (Joel) of Wasilla, Alaska, Tammy Palmer (Scott) of Wasilla, Alaska; grandchildren, Hailey Stroud of Ahoskie, Tray Ramsey of Morehead City, Brandon Jernigan of Currituck, Jason Jernigan of Winton, and Benjamin Jernigan of Powellsville; three sisters, Ann Rhodes (George) of Mechanicsville, VA, Elnor Snell of Richmond, VA, and Nancy Drew of Aulander; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening, April 6, 2023, from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, to allow friends to gather and reminisce the memories of Mr. L.C.

Elnor and Ann I would like to express my deepest sympathy to each of you and to each member of L. C.’s entire family. It is my prayer that God will grant you the utmost peace and comfort now and in the days that lie ahead. I have nothing but the fondest of memories of growing up with L. C. and his sisters in the Elm Grove community. In talking and sharing with him from time to time, I know that he loved Elnor, Mary and Ann and appreciated all that you did for him. May God grant peace and comfort to all of the family.
