Lloyd Newbern Winslow, Sr., age 93, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Lloyd was raised on a dairy with his parents, Ernest and Hattie Winslow, and his six siblings. He learned at an early age the importance of family and working hard. He married the love of his life, Eva Kitchin Edwards on Wednesday, June 28, 1950. To this marriage was born two sons, Lloyd Newbern Winslow, Jr. and John Edwards Winslow. Lloyd was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church in Scotland Neck where he served as a trustee, a deacon, a Sunday School teacher and the ringer of the church bell. He and Eva enjoyed many years of traveling in the United States and a few mission trips abroad. Lloyd was known as always having a dog at his side. The most well-known was a brown poodle named Charlie Brown that traveled across forty-nine states and wore a miniature helmet when he rode on the motorcycle with Lloyd. He was a farmer by trade but also a collector of antique cars, tractors, farm equipment, and arrowheads. One of his most treasured cars is a 1914 Model T in which he chauffeured many newlyweds on their special day and even a few celebrities in parades. Lloyd is best described as an honest man whose word was his bond. He was deeply loved and will be truly missed by all that knew him, especially his grandchildren that fondly called him Papa.

Lloyd is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eva Kitchin Edwards Winslow, his son, John Winslow, his sister, Sarah Winslow Bond, and his brothers, Ernest, Sherrod, Tom, and Jack Winslow.

He is survived by his son, Lloyd Winslow, Jr. and his wife, Pattie of Halifax, NC; his sister, Ann Winslow Cox of Houston, TX; his brother, Zeb Winslow, Sr. of Scotland Neck, NC; his grandchildren, Lloyd Winslow, III and his wife, Anna of Scotland Neck, NC, Ben Winslow and his wife, Kathleen of Halifax, NC, Carol Winslow Mueller and her husband, Scott of Greenville, NC and April Hardee and her husband, Curt of Enfield, NC; nine great grandchildren, Ainsley and Lloyd “Chip” Winslow, IV, Alice Winslow, Mersina, Winslow, and James Caldwell, Lila Mueller due in December, and Harrison and Aidan Hardee; two step great grandchildren, Bradford and Madison Mueller; a sister-in-law, Pat S. Winslow; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Winslow and a very special friend, Dorothy Whitehead.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at 11AM at First Baptist Church Scotland Neck. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Allen Cherry will be officiating the service.
