COVINGTON, VA – Mrs. Mamie Elizabeth Baker Lassiter, affectionately known as Becky, formerly of Woodland, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at the age of 80, at the Alleghany Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia. She was born to Louis Derwood Baker and Alice Activia Brown Baker on November 26, 1943, in Ahoskie, North Carolina.

Becky led a fulfilling life filled with dedication and love. She briefly worked in the family store, Baker’s Store, before becoming a skilled seamstress at Woodland Casket Factory. For over four decades, she served as an environmental service director at Hampton Woods in Jackson and Rich Square Health and Rehab in Rich Square. Known for her true Southern belle charm, Becky was a sweet and loving Christian lady who spread positivity wherever she went. Her glowing smile could light up any room, and her warm, gentle spirit endeared her to all who knew her. Family held a special place in her heart, and she cherished her loved ones dearly. A longtime member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Becky found solace and community in her faith throughout her life. While she may not have garnered notable achievements in the public eye, her impact on those around her was immeasurable. Becky will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Along with her parents, Becky was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Abner Lassiter, her special friend, Wilbur Garner, her brother, Louis Derwood Baker, Jr., and sisters, Alice Faye Ray, and Linda Ray Bowen.

Left to cherish Becky’s memory is her daughter, Ann Lassiter Wells (Marty) of Covington, VA; her beloved granddaughter, Andee Moseley Wood (Matthew) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; four grandsons, Donnie Wells (Brianna)of Hopewell, VA, Austin Wells (Heather) of Stony Creek, VA, Preston Wells (Zoe) of Japan, and Dallas Wells of Vilsek, Germany; two great grandsons, Gabriel Peterson, and Jackson Wells; a special daughter and best friend to Ann, Tracy Nichols Young (Michael); God grandson, Davis Todd (Alanna); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 30, 2024, from 10:00 am until 10:45 am at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC. A graveside celebration of life service will follow at 11 am at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, NC with Rev. David Ray officiating.
