Margaret Holmes Pittman, of 1218 Ivy Lane, Raleigh, died on Saturday, November 15, 2008 following a brave fight against leukemia.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Gary Fulton will be presiding. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.
Margaret was born on September 6, 1939, the second of two daughters. She graduated from New Hanover High School in Wilmington in 1958 and later attended Peace College in Raleigh. Following school, Margaret worked for Carolina Telephone and Telegraph Company, and later as an assistant to the Town Mangaer of Tarboro. After her marriage to Jim, she worked for several years at Home Insurance Agency of Scotland Neck.
Above all, Margaret was a loving wife and mother. Family was very important to her, and time spent with loved ones was always the priority. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Scotland Neck, and over the years served as a member of the altar guild. Her favorite hobby was reading, and she also enjoyed travel, gardening and playing bridge with her friends.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James Aubrey Pittman, Sr.; her mother, Mabel Norfleet Holmes; and her father, James Hall Holmes.
She is survived by her sons, James Aubrey Pittman, Jr. of Augusta, GA and Ashley Norfleet Pittmand and wife Cynthia Gayle Pittman of Raleigh; sister, Anne Ashley Hambidge of Fort Myers, FL; and one granddaughter, Caroline Margaret Pittman of Raleigh.
The Pittman family would like to thank Margaret’s many friends and the congregation of Trinity Episcopal Church for their prayers and support over her prolonged illness. Her many friends were integral in motivating her to fight her illness and to enjoy her remaining days.
