Margaret Jefferson Ayers, 90, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.
Margaret was born on April 16, 1927 in Beaufort County, NC to the late Albert B. Jefferson and Lucy Woolard Jefferson. A loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, she was a dedicated homemaker and loved taking care of her family. Known far and wide as the best cheese biscuit maker, she loved two bros snuff and especially enjoyed aggravating her son-in-law, Chris. Her grandchildren were her greatest love and in later years her favorite thing was telling people to be quiet.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Robert Ayers; her daughter, Lucy Mae Byrum; her son, Melvin Ayers; and her brother, Thomas Jefferson.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Barbara Hale and husband Chris of Tarboro, Ellen Mitchell and husband Tom of Scotland Neck, and Virginia “Baby” Best and husband Charles of Scotland Neck; her son, Robert “Bud” Ayers and wife Cathy of Scotland Neck; her daughter-in-law, Helen Ayers of Tarboro; her brother, Jesse Jefferson of Suffolk, VA; her special sister-in-law, Maggie White of Greenville; eighteen grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Sunnyside Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Dallas Gurganus will be presiding.
