Marie Wade Chitty, 87, of Kitty Hawk, NC, passed away peacefully in her home on September 13, 2018.

A native of Conway, NC, Marie was the daughter of the late Vernon Lee Wade and Goldie Futrell Wade.  She graduated as a Registered Nurse with the first graduating class of the Louise Obici School of Nursing in 1952, after which she made her home in Ahoskie, NC, with her loving late husband of 48 years, James Frank Chitty, Jr.

Forever caring, loving and devoted to her family and friends, Marie was spirited and had a zest for life.  She had an ongoing knack for bringing joy to those around her.  Having retired from a career in nursing after 30 years, she began subsequent careers in retail as a co-owner of Brand Names Connections, and in real estate as a co-owner of Southern Breeze Realty, all of Ahoskie, NC.  She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Ahoskie.  Marie enjoyed her retirement years in Kitty Hawk, NC, where she became a member of Kitty Hawk United Methodist Church.

Marie was also predeceased by her son, James “Jim” Frank Chitty, III, her daughter-in-law, Kathleen “Kay” Young Chitty, her grandson, James “Jay” Frank Chitty, IV, and her grandson, Taylor Wade Chitty.  She was the sister of the late Earvin Lee Wade and the late Andrew Jackson Wade, and sister-in-law of the late Sylvia Wade Brown.

Marie is survived by her caring husband of 12 years, Odell Frances Barnes, of Kitty Hawk, NC, her daughter, Deborah Chitty McKinney, of Kitty Hawk, NC, her granddaughter, Haley Young Chitty of Chiang Mai, Thailand, her grandson, Franklin Stuart McKinney (Maggie Armstrong),  and great-grandson, Brodrick Graham McKinney, of Murphy, NC, her brother, Tex Fennison Wade (Victoria “Viki” White Wade), of Franklin, VA, her step-daughter, Nancy Barnes, of Jackson, NC, her step-son, Steve Barnes (Sue Barnes), of Jackson, NC, her step-son, Gary Barnes (Teresa Barnes) of Youngsville, NC, her sister-in-law, Daphne Wade, of Conway, NC, her sister-in-law, Virginia Chitty, of Ahoskie, NC, and beloved nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful to Vickie Jordan and Maggie Sanders for their years of support and caregiving for Marie and are appreciative for the services of Dare County Hospice, Dare County EMS, and the Kitty Hawk Fire Department.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at 2:30 pm, at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC, with Pastor Rick Jordan officiating.  Burial will follow in Ahoskie Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and relatives at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie on Saturday, September 22, 2018, from 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm, prior to the service.

These are TUFF times and my heart goes out to Deb and her family. It is such a blessing that Ms. Chitty is with our Lord Jesus Christ where she is no longer suffering in this world. BUT the ones that are left in this world will grieve for a long time. There are no words that one can speak to make it any better, but I am with you in spirit every day and love you always!!!! If ever you need the least little thing, please just ask, I am here for you!!!!
