Marion “Sis” Wilkinson Scott, age 78, of Scotland Neck, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Sis was born on January 16, 1945 to James and Marion Wilkinson in Tarboro, NC. Sis was a teacher for many years, retiring from the Edgecombe County School System. She was a dedicated caretaker for everyone, cooking for people daily and providing meals for most funerals. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, she loved her church and her church family greatly. Sis always wore a smile on her face no matter what and was known for running over everything with her scooter. One of her greatest joys was attending her grandchildren’s ball games, rarely missing one. When you heard the remark “Hurry up Sis” she was sure to respond with “I’ve got it”. Sis always looked out for others and will be deeply missed.

Sis was preceded in death by her father, James Thomas Wilkinson, Sr.; her mother, Marion Fountain Wilkinson; and her brother, James Thomas Wilkinson, Jr.

Sis is survived by her daughters, Debby (Tim) Hopkins of Scotland Neck and Susan (Dennis) Holliday of Scotland Neck; three grandsons, Ryan (Erin) Hopkins of Oak City, Cody Hopkins of Scotland Neck, and Hutson (Jordan) Holliday of Greenville; three granddaughters, Kira (G.C.) Hopkins of Scotland Neck, Cailyn Holliday of Scotland Neck, and Rachel (Ethan) Holliday of Scotland Neck; three great-granddaughters, Rylyn Hopkins, River Hopkins, and Raleigh Hopkins; her special niece, Perrin Wilkinson Gardner of Southern Shores; and special friends, Louise Braddy, Joan Tutor, and Susan Green all of Scotland Neck and Richard and Liz Scott and daughter Kyla (Renee) of Scotland Neck and Winterville.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck, with Rev. Paul Spradley officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Scotland Neck, 1015 Church Street, Scotland Neck, NC 27874 or online by clicking here.

I’m so sorry to hear of Sis’ passing, but I also know where she is now. No one ever worked harder for the “Body of Christ”. Her rewards will be great and she will stand tall as the rest of us kneel.

The family of Sis Scott—her biological family, her church family, and her Scotland Neck community family—have lost a beloved family member. Through countless acts of love and service, she showed her love for all who thank God for her and now share her loss.
