Mrs. Mary Evans Goodwin, age 89 passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Rich Square Health Care Center in Rich Square, NC on Friday, January 25, 2013.
Mrs. Goodwin was born in Princess Anne, Virginia on March 30, 1923, a daughter of the late Ralph B. and Mary Joyner Evans. She was a member of Rich Square Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sterling Goodwin, Sr.; two sisters, Thelma Evans Nowell and Ruth Evans Jones, and one brother, Ralph Henry Evans.
Survivors include her daughter Judy Goodwin Long of Roanoke Rapids, NC, two sons, H.S. ‘Sonny’ Goodwin, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Yorktown, VA, and Ralph Jackson ‘Red’ Goodwin and fiance’ Cathy of Eure, NC; a brother, Leslie James Evans of Kill Devil Hills, NC; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Monday, January 28, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Rich Square Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Rogers officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square. Friends may visit with the family at the home of Mrs. Goodwin in Rich Square. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Rich Square Baptist Church, 116 W. Jackson St., Rich Square, NC, 27869.


Judy, Sonny, Red Did not know about Mary until I saw the paper. She was the best and helped ourfarmily so much over the years. She made going to the doctor’s easier. Will not foget her.
We were so sorry to hear the passing of your mom. She was very special to us and we are sorry we were unable to attend her celebration of life, which she did so well as a faithful servant of her Lord.
