Mary Lawrence Copeland Doran, 92, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2017, two days shy of her 93rd birthday.
Mary was born on October 4, 1924 in Gates County, NC, daughter of the late Paul Shepard and Helen Cross Lawrence. The family moved to Hobgood, where she lived until she graduated from high school. Afterwards, Mary moved to Virginia Beach, VA and worked at the Naval Base. She met her husband, Clyde, and after they were married they made their home on the family farm in Palmyra. After the death of her husband, Mary remarried and lived in Richmond, VA for a short time. She later returned to Palmyra where she resided until 2014 when she moved to Fountains at the Albemarle in Tarboro. Mary was a long-time member of the Scotland Neck United Methodist Church.
Mary was a wonderful cook and loved working in her flower beds, making sure everything was properly watered. She greatly enjoyed spending time at the beach and watching ACC basketball and football.
In addition to her parents Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Clyde Wesley Copeland and Kenneth I. Doran; her sisters, Geraldine Cox and Cleo Eppes; and her brother, Paul Lawrence.
She is survived by her son, Wesley Copeland and wife Mary Ann of Scotland Neck; her daughter, Helen Crisp and husband Jess of Oak City and Linda Mann and husband Larry of Raleigh; her sister, Ann Lawrence Graves of Richmond, VA; her grandchildren, Clyde Copeland, Meredith Courts, Sam Crisp, Elizabeth Burton, Macy Bruner, Morgan Fowler, Jessica Link, and Jacquelyn Yanik; her great-grandchildren, Hayden Fowler, Lennon Bruner, Cole Burton, Addie Burton, Carson Crisp, Wesley Copeland, Austin Copeland, Copeland Courts, Caroline Courts, and Malon Courts; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Fountains at the Albemarle and the staff at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital for going the extra mile with their care.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Dusty Sprouse will be presiding.
