AHOSKIE, NC – Maxine Spruill Sumner, age 93, passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation of Windsor, NC.
Mrs. Sumner was born on December 18, 1926 to Leslie Earl Spruill and Nona Whitley Spruill in Creswell, NC. Maxine was a devoted member of Hickory Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was an excellent cook, enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilts, and tending her flowers. Maxine loved her family, especially her grandchildren and loved to stay home and spend time with them as often as possible.
In addition to her parents, Maxine is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Poston Sumner, and brothers, Leslie Earl Spruill, and Oscar Denton Spruill.
Maxine is survived by three sons, Louis Wesley Sumner and wife Angelia of Washington, NC, Hersey Ray Sumner and wife Lillian of Rougemont, NC, and Caroll Leonard Sumner and wife Kathy of Windsor, NC; brother, Jerry Spruill of Conway, NC; sister, Jean Carter and husband Walter of Norfolk, VA; eight grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020, at 2:00 PM, at the Sumner Family Cemetery, 450 NC Hwy 561 East, Ahoskie, NC.

She was one special lady. I remember when she was a member of my church. She was always kind of had something good to say about people. She will be greatly missed.
