Mitchell Thomas “Tom” Moore, Sr.

Mitchell Thomas “Tom” Moore, Sr., age 71, passed away on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Accordius Health at Scotland Manor in Scotland Neck.

Tom was born on June 22, 1950 to the late Jesse Milton Moore, Sr. and Vera Whitehead Moore in Scotland Neck. He graduated from Scotland Neck High School and was in the National Guard for six years. Tom worked at the sawmill and in logging and farming while in Scotland Neck. He moved to Raleigh and went to work for Goldston Lumber Company until his retirement. Tom loved coon hunting, fishing, and spending time on the farm. He raised hunting dogs and received many trophies for his hunting abilities. Tom had a tremendous love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Anna Moore Best and husband Greg of Zebulon; his sons, Jonathan Wade Moore and wife Kristy of Clayton and Mitchell Thomas Moore, Jr. of Louisburg; his sister, Elizabeth Hasty and husband C.T. of Scotland Neck; his brother, Milton Moore and wife Deborah of Scotland Neck; his grandsons, Blake Best of Zebulon, Tyson Best of Zebulon, Isaac Moore of Clayton, and Steven Burnette of Louisburg; his granddaughters, Olivia Moore of Clayton and Sarah Burnette of Louisburg; his great-grandsons, Cody Burnette of Louisburg and Kyle Burnette of Louisburg; and his great-granddaughter, Kaylee Burnette of Louisburg.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 in the Chapel of Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck, with Lee Marks officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
