RICH SQUARE, NC – Myrna Joyner Perry, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at the Gates House Assisted Living in Gatesville, NC.

Myrna was born on June 2, 1929 to the late Roy Thomas Joyner and Blannie Allen Joyner in Northampton County, NC. Myrna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She attended Ferree School of Art in Raleigh, NC. She was very talented in fine art and commercial art and chose mainly commercial art because she felt that showed her best work. Myrna taught art in Northampton and Hertford County for many years. Her art can still be seen in many surrounding businesses. Myrna says her “best subject was basketball.” She played the organ and piano at Grace Baptist Church as long as she was able. Myrna was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish Myrna’s memory are her children, Garry Elliott and wife Evelyn of Jackson, and Patricia Harrell and husband Thomas of Margarettsville; grandsons, Patrick Martin and wife Lisa of Conway, Jordan Harrell of Raleigh, Austin Harrell and wife Elizabeth of Wake Forest, and Ryan Elliott and wife Danielle of Jackson; granddaughter, Myrna Elliott of Colerain; and eight great grandchildren.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC, with grandson, Austin Harrell officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Albemarle Home Care and Hospice, 1507 N Road St #2, Elizabeth City, NC 27909 or online by clicking here

My condolences to the family. Myrna leaves a legacy of her art and the lives she touched through her teaching. As the Director of the Hertford County Office of Aging during the time she was teaching Art at the Center, I had the privilege of not only seeing her teach, but also learning from her myself.. Her art hangs in my home today, and I cherish it. I can only wonder today what beautiful picture she might paint from what she sees in Heaven. God bless her and His continued blessings upon the family.
