Nancy Leggett Stevenson passed away on March 25 at her home in Scotland Neck, NC surrounded by her family. She was 74 years old.

Born July 31, 1949 in Rocky Mount, NC, Nancy was the daughter of the late Arthur K. Leggett and Eudora Helms Leggett Andrews. She graduated from Scotland Neck High School and was employed by the Halifax and Nash County Departments of Social Services for many years, holding a variety of positions. She retired from North Carolina State Child Support Services.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Richard Carroll Stevenson of Scotland Neck and her siblings, Arthur K. Leggett (Kathy) of Washington, NC and Jeanne L. Stevenson (Fred) of Blairstown, NJ and their families. Nancy was a devoted mother to her daughters, Susie Baggette May of Scotland Neck, NC and Alison Baggette Thompson of Hendersonville, NC and their spouses, Frankie May and TC Thompson. Her role as a grandmother brought her immeasurable happiness. Nancy adored her grandchildren, Paul King (Jenni Tutor), Chris May, Will May, Steven Thompson, and Katherine Thompson.

In addition to her immediate family, Nancy leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.  She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of being part of her life.

A graveside memorial service to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Cemetery on March 27th at 2pm.

Sorry to hear of this loss. Nancy was always very warm and I enjoyed her company at family reunions in the Leggett family as well as other events.

There are no words to describe our sorrow at Nancy’s passing. Her sweetness and kindness as well as her gentleness will forever be remembered. The world was a better place to have had her in it. Now, Nancy, fly,fly with the angels!

My sincere and deepest sympathy to my uncle Richard and the Leggett family. Nancy was the sweetest and kindest person I have ever known a beautiful soul. My family and I are grateful we were able to spend sometime with her the last couple of years. Nancy will be truly missed by all who knew and loved her. Heaven has another angel.

Nancy and I were neighbors and friends many years ago. She had an beautiful,angelic soul and her calmness seems to have stayed with her through her life.
