AHOSKIE, NC – Nellie Joyner Barnes, age 90, passed away on February 24, 2019 at the Accordius Health at Creekside Care of Ahoskie, NC.
Mrs. Barnes was born on October 13, 1928 to Solon Lee and Celesta Vaughan Joyner in Murfreesboro, NC. Nellie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She worked in retail most of her life, acquiring many friends over the years. Nellie was a member of First Baptist Church in Ahoskie. She loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. Nellie was an exceptional cook and enjoyed her flowers and shopping. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Perry Barnes; and her brother, Vernon Joyner.
Nellie is survived by her daughter, Shirley Harrell and husband John of Murfreesboro; son, William Alan Barnes and wife Mary of Plymouth, NC; sister-in-law, Agnes Joyner; two granddaughters, Stephanie Conner and husband Chris of Murfreesboro, and Jenna Barnes Weathersbee and husband Brian of Fort Mill, SC; grandson, Brian Barnes and wife Callie of Fuquay Varina, NC great-grandson, Liam Conner of Murfreesboro; two great-granddaughters, Brileigh Weathersbee of Fort Mill, SC, and Hartleigh Conner of Murfreesboro; and a niece, Janet Stradley and husband Paul of Youngsville, NC.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 26, 2019, from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. Trey Gilliam officiating.
