Mrs. Nettie Mae Godwin Byrum, 91, of Ahoskie passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Windsor, NC.

A Celebration of Nettie Mae‚??s life will be held at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie on Tuesday, January 4 at 2:00 p.m. Rev. J.N. Baggett will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie.

Nettie Mae was a member of Brantley‚??s Grove Baptist Church of Ahoskie. She was a choir member and Primary Class Sunday School teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Thomas Byrum, Sr. and her parents Albert and Addie Godwin. One of seven children, she was a devoted and loving mother with a kind heart. Her surviving children include: A. T. Byrum, Jr, son, and wife Joyce; Agnes Perry, daughter, and husband Gaston of Raleigh; Linwood Byrum, son, and wife Carolyn of Ahoskie; and Sheryl Byrum Harrell, daughter, of Ahoskie.

Grandchildren are Walter Perry III of Nashville, TN; Trey Byrum and Al Byrum of Ahoskie; Wood Byrum of Greenville, NC and Amy Lassiter of Angier, NC; and Chad Harrell of Eure, NC and Brooke Harrell of Greenville, NC. Also, there are four great-grandchildren.

The Family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie

Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Brantleys Grove Baptist Church, 601 Ahoskie-Cofield Rd., Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Ms. Byrum was a wonderful Sunday School teacher. I remember lots of class parties she had at her home for us kids.
