Nikki Natasha Powell, a former teacher and cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, in Pittsboro, North Carolina. Nikki was born on March 30, 1972, in Topeka, Kansas. She was 51 years old at the time of her passing.
Throughout her life, Nikki dedicated herself to the noble profession of teaching, positively impacting the lives of countless students. She began her career at Fairfax County Public Schools before sharing her knowledge and passion at Ft. Belvoir Elementary School and Hertford County Middle School. Nikki’s commitment to education led her to pursue a degree in Elementary Education at East Carolina University and later further her studies in Administration and Supervision at Strayer.
In addition to her dedication to education, Nikki had a lively spirit and genuine interests that brought her joy outside the classroom. She found immense pleasure in cooking and baking, with her famous sweet potato pie being a treasured delight among family and friends. Nikki always maintained a youthful spirit, eagerly embracing amusement parks such as Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens, and Disney World. Her enthusiasm for these places brought out her inner child, making her an ardent supporter of all school functions, especially band competitions and cheerleading when her daughter was performing.
Nikki’s involvement extended beyond her professional and recreational pursuits. As a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, she showcased her commitment to sisterhood and service. Her kind and caring nature touched those around her, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues, friends, and loved ones.
Nikki will be dearly missed by her mother, Elsie Jean Powell; daughter, Kirstin Brooks; and brother, Greg Powell. She is preceded in death by her beloved father, Eugene “Bizz” Powell.
As we bid farewell to Nikki Natasha Powell, we reflect on the tremendous impact she has made throughout her life. Her dedication to education, her joyful spirit, and her love for others will be cherished forever.
