COLERAIN, NC – Nita Parker Brown passed away December 2nd, 2023, with her family by her side in the home where she lived for over 70 years. She was a lovely soul treasured by many. The world is a better place because of her.

Nita was known for her gentle spirit, grace, and genuine kindness. She was the last of her generation in both her family and her husband’s family. She was loved by many nieces and nephews. She was a caretaker for many during her life.

When her health allowed, she enjoyed being active in her church and working in her yard. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her carrot cake and angel biscuits. She made sure her home was always comfortable and welcoming for all.

Her spirit lives on in her family who strive to honor her example and continue her legacy.

Special thanks to her caregiver, Kiyomi Lewis and to special neighbors Dee and Roy Worrells and Jay and Loretta Smith.

Nita is preceded in death by her father, Harry Parker, her mother, Nita Matthews Parker, her loving husband, Shirley Poe “Cutt” Brown, her sisters, Joan Parker and Joyce Lyon, her brother, Sonny Parker, her grandson, Gabriel May, and her daughter-in-law, Teresa Brown.

Nita leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her son, Charlie Brown (Donna) of Virginia Beach, VA, and his children, Tonia Meade (Brian) of Shawboro, NC and Nate Brown (Rachael) of Virginia Beach, VA. Her daughters, Ginger Greene and husband, Billy of Winterville, NC, and their children, Lauren Goodwin (Eric) of Edenton, NC, and Eve Greene of Winterville, NC. Shirley Clark of Colerain, NC, and her children, Logan Clark (Kris) of Cary, NC, and Emma Kate Clark (Bryant) of Raleigh, NC. Nita is also survived by six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

This just breaks my heart! Nita was one of the kindest, gentlest, most caring peopleI know. She was like a second mom to me when I lived in Trap, I loved our many chats and her passing along her Charlie Brown cookie recipe! I know that she will be deeply missed. Prayers to all the family, may God comfort and give you strength during this time.

Charlie, Ginger, Shirley and family,
So saddened to hear about Ms. Brown’s passing. She was the sweetest soul!! Sometime after Teresa passed away, we sat out on her front porch and just chatted away! I know her family and friends adored her!! Blessings and prayers to all.
