AHOSKIE- Oliver Glenn Fleming, age 94, of Lake View Drive, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Fleming was born on January 2, 1927 to Rinaldo Fleming and Ellena Smith Fleming in Smithfield, NC. Oliver worked as a pharmacist for Boone-Taylor Pharmacy and later at Mizelle’s Discount Drugs, until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening and socializing with friends.  Mr. Oliver was a devoted member of The First Baptist Church of Ahoskie and cherished his church family. He liked to spend time in the community and was a member of the Rotary. As much as Oliver enjoyed his church family and community, his most precious times were spent with his family. He was loved and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

Other than his parents, Mr. Oliver was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his son Mike and a brother Thomas Fleming.

Oliver is survived by his two sons, Steve Fleming and wife Laurie of Boone, NC, as well as Jeff Fleming and wife Carrie of Des Moines, IA; Grandson, Tyler Fleming and wife Amber of Winston Salem, NC; Four Granddaughters, Brianna Fleming Meier and husband Nathan of Winston Salem, NC, Ellena Brooks and husband Matt of Kansas City, Elijah Fleming and husband Nick Hallman of Duluth, MI, Wren Fleming of Des Moines, IA; Two Great-granddaughters, Aleera Brooks and Evelyn Fleming; Two Great-grandsons, Oliver Fleming and Henry Meier; Special Friend, Betty Duke of Ahoskie, NC.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date at the First Baptist Church of Ahoskie with Rev. Dr. Paul R. Gilliam III officiating.

I was blessed to call him Uncle Oliver. He is a truly wonderful man. I’m every way. Lots of good memories. Nancy and I are so sorry.

So sorry for the loss of such a great man but we all know he is present with the Lord. Mr. Fleming was such a positive man and a good friend to the Askew family. I pray for comfort for the family.

So sorry to hear of Mr. Fleming’s passing. He was a true Southern gentleman & was so kind. He always looked after our office staff when it was time for the Pancake Event. He will surely be missed. Sincere condolences to his family. RIP my friend! God gained a special angel!
