Peggy Britt Futrell, age 83, formerly of Murfreesboro, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2020 at the Scotland House of Scotland Neck, NC.
Peggy was born on March 22, 1936 to the late Johnny Thomas Britt and Thelma Brett Britt in Murfreesboro, NC. Peggy graduated from Murfreesboro High School. Upon graduation, she fell in love with a young sailor, Willard Davis Futrell. They married in 1956 and moved to San Diego, CA. She was a proud, supportive Naval wife through all the various moves that were to come over the next 33 years. Peggy had a lengthy career with the US Government, where she eventually retired in 1993. After retirement, Peggy and WD completed building their dream home in 1994, back home in Murfreesboro. They called their new house, ‘home port’, where they lived happily throughout their retirement years.
Peggy is survived by her two daughters, Terri Futrell Hobson of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Tammy Futrell Ourand and husband Steve, currently of Murfreesboro, NC; two brothers, Jack Britt of Murfreesboro, NC, Robert Britt and wife Jean of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandsons, Brian Hobson and Carly of Stafford, VA, Lee Ourand of Brooklyn, NY, Jess Ourand of Norfolk, VA; granddaughter, Brittney Hobson of Myrtle Beach, SC; great-grandchildren, Conner, Ella, Madeline and Marshal Hobson, along numerous extended family members.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Willard Davis Futrell.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2020, from 12:30 pm until 1:45 pm at Ashley’s Grove Baptist Church, Conway, NC. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. David Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Murfreesboro, NC.
