SCOTLAND NECK – Phillip Ray Bryant, age 71, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife and children on Saturday, June 25, 2022.

Phil was a loving husband, always sacrificing and putting his family first.  He loved teasing his wife, Blanche, getting her all riled up, but it was always with a laugh.  He took the family on a yearly beach trip, swimming, and days on the sandbar at the river.  His sense of humor truly came out with his grandchildren.  He dressed up for Halloween with them, loved scaring them, pretended they were pirates and buried treasure in the yard for them to dig up and find.  He took them on pretend trips in “the big truck” to what he told them was Texas and Alabama, when really they were just on an old country road by a pond filled with “alligators”!  He was truly the life of the party on Highway 125!

Phil was a loving husband, father, and Papa to his grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Juanita Staton Bryant and J.W. Bryant, Jr.; his son, John Wesley Bryant; and his brothers, Eddie Virgil Bryant and Arthur Wayne Bryant.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Blanche Newsome Bryant; his son, Samuel Bryant and wife Ashley; his daughters, Juanita Bryant Fleming and husband Cary and Elizabeth Bryant Arnette; his sister, Billie Bryan and family friend Bookie Ellis; his brothers, Wesley Bryant and  J.W. Bryant, III and wife Debo; his grandchildren, John Cameron Arnette, Samantha Paige Arnette, Anna Elizabeth “Libby” Harsh, Emily Raye Harsh, Michael Fleming, Aaron Fleming, Amber Caroline Williamson, John Nicholas Bryant, and Julia Mallison Bryant; his great-grandchild, Emma Kate Williamson; and beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Letchworth Chapel in Scotland Neck, with Rev. Paul Spradley officiating.

Phil was a truck driver for 37 years, traveling all over the continental United States, Canada, and Mexico.  He received an award for over 3 million miles accident free and was a driver trainer toward the end of his career before he retired.  Roll On…
