Rachel H. Martin age 80 of Ahoskie died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Roanoke Chowan Hospital. She was born January 21, 1931 in Hertford County to the late Edgar and Gertrude Harrell. She was the wife of the late Joseph H. Martin.
She was a member of Union Baptist Church and was active in the WMU. She loved to laugh, loved her family and loved to cook especially Brunswick stew.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at the graveside Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Highland Memorial Gardens. Rev. H.C. Boschen will officiate.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jean Dilday of Ahoskie, Joann Vann and her husband Elmer of Ahoskie, Donnie Martin and his wife Gail of South Boston,VA., Kathy Leonard and her husband Butch of Ahoskie and Gwen Ayers and her husband Robert of Ahoskie. She is also survived by her sisters, Sally Parker of Roxobel, Barbara Baker of Roxobel, Paige Bryant of Rich Square and Thelma Helms of Rich Square, her brothers Calvin Harrell of Effingham,SC., Kenneth Harrell of St. Glen Mary, FL., and Ronnie Harrell of Jacksonville, FL. She has seven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law Lee Dilday and a granddaughter Sheri Paige Vann.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home in Ahoskie.
