Ralph Burton Barnhill, age 67, passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville.

Ralph was born on November 3, 1956. He grew up in Scotland Neck with his parents, James Burton “JB” and Frances Phillips Barnhill and his sister Trudy. He was married to Ginger Edwards for 33 years and to this marriage they had one daughter, Kathryn Virginia “Kathy”. Ralph worked at Shenandoah Wood Preservers, Inc. prior to his retirement. His hobbies included woodworking and hunting deer mainly but also turkey and rabbits. Like his father, he was a long-time member of Clark Gun Club, to those that knew him, knew the club was his passion, especially preserving the history of the club. Ralph also enjoyed cooking and sharing what he cooked. Over the years, he had a crew of locals that would come out on Friday nights, and he would cook for them at the pool house along with cooking whole hogs at Kathy’s school and Sylvan Heights Bird Park when they had fundraisers. He also was known for texting cooking buddies around supper time with “What’s on the grill?”. Ralph referred to the “glory days” as being downtown Greenville between Chapter X and Papa Katz. He shared the stories of those days with such detail that you felt like you were there yourself. When it came to traveling, he cherished his trips to Montana and Jackson Hole the most. When you see a rocking chair by a pool, take a moment and remember Ralph because that was his happy place.

Ralph is preceded in death by his parents and his sister. He is survived by his wife, Ginger Barnhill of the home, daughter, Kathy Barnhill of Greenville, and their beloved dog, Molly.

My heart hurts knowing that I will not be hearing from Ralph by text message again. He and I were lifelong friends and competitors in basketball. I know Ralph received his Salvation in the past and look forward to seeing “The Big Guy” again in Heaven in God’s time.

Ralph, my heart is breaking just knowing you are not just across the field. You have been a trusted and true friend to Robert and me over the years. I know you are not in pain. Your suffering on this earth is done. I can only imagine what you and Robert are doing now. I know you two will be keeping an eye on Ginger and I. Robert and I loved you like a brother. You will be missed so much . Until we meet again my friend. Godspeed ????♥️✝️
