Robert Burton Brown, III, 59, lost his battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 while at the VA Hospital’s Hospice Unit in Durham.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Robert was born on September 24, 1952 in Raleigh. He was the son of the late Robert B. Brown, Jr. and Alma Lucille Tutor Brown. After graduating from William G. Enloe High School in Raleigh, he joined the Navy in 1975. Robert served in the Navy Hospital Corps and served with the Marines at Camp Lejeune. He also graduated from Amphibious Reconnaissance School in Key West, FL in February 1977. After receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1981, Robert worked construction and hunted with the Hobgood Gun Club. He loved the outdoors, NASCAR, and his friends, and lived his last years in Edgecombe County. Robert was a great friend and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his brother, Marshall Brown of Raleigh; and his sister, Janice Keclik of Georgia.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert’s name to the Durham VA Hospice Unit, 508 Fulton Street, Durham, NC 27705.
