Sheridan Ray Woodard, 72, died Tuesday, December 18, 2007 of complications following an earlier heart attack.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Scotland Neck. The Reverend Doctor James Drake will be presiding.
Ray graduated from Scotland Neck High School and went on to work for the U.S. Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C. Upon retirement, he moved to Rocky Mount to be closer to home and family. Ray was a long-time classic car enthusiast and a collector of classic automobiles. He traveled around the United States and abroad, but more recently enjoyed trips to country and western shows in Branson, Missouri.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie Woodard and Lila Woodard Lancaster of Scotland Neck; sister, Dorothy Whitehead of Scotland Neck; son, Bennie Woodard of Suitland, MD; and most recently, by his beloved wife, Peggy Woodard.
He is survived by his granddaughter, Ashley Woodard of Waldorf, MD; step-sons, Steven Noel and wife Wanda of Crofton, MD and Phillip Noel of Waldorf, MD; and nieces and nephews, Beverly Whitehurst and Bill Whitehead both of Rocky Mount and Al Whitehead and Dorothy Harris both of Scotland Neck.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 19, 2007 at Letchworth Funeral Home in Scotland Neck.
