AHOSKIE – Shirley Lee Brown, age 72, of the 100 block of Lewter Farm Road, died Thursday, September 17, 2009, at Pitt Inpatient Hospice Care in Greenville.

Mr. Brown was born in Hertford County on February 13, 1937, a son of the late James Raleigh and Daisy Hoggard Brown. He was a member of St. Johns Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Alice Martin Brown; a son, Sherwood Lee Brown and his wife, Pat Benthall Brown of Ahoskie; a granddaughter, Courtney Brown Simpson and her husband, Henry of Harrellsville; and a great grandson, William Henry Simpson. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Brock of Ahoskie, and Doris Smith of Murfreesboro, and a brother, James Earl Brown of Kernersville, NC.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009, in the Ashley Memorial Chapel at Garrett-Jones Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Saturday and other times at the home. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Union Volunteer Fire Department or to St. Johns Baptist Church, 1650 NC 461, Ahoskie, NC, 27910.
